We are excited to announce our partnership with the Teaching Immigration in European Schools (TIES) project, a groundbreaking initiative to bring nuanced academic perspectives on migration directly into European high school classrooms. This collaboration is a significant milestone for Migration Matters as we contribute to fostering critical thinking and informed discussions on migration among young learners.

TIES is dedicated to designing interactive teaching modules that cover various aspects of migration. These modules are crafted to engage and educate students in helping them understand the complexities of migration in our globalized world. TIES modules are accessible in six European languages, making them a valuable resource for educators across the continent.

Various Migration Matters videos have been incorporated into TIES nine 45-minute modules. Among these is the highly relevant module on Climate Change & Migration, which features content from our series, “The Big Climate Movement: Migration & Displacement in Times of Climate Change.” This module explores the connections between climate change and migration, offering students insights into how environmental factors can influence human mobility and displacement.

The TIES Climate Change & Migration module is particularly pertinent in today’s world, where the impacts of climate change are increasingly evident. The TIES module provides educators with powerful tools to teach students about the nuanced relationship between environmental change and human migration and help them grasp the challenges faced by displaced communities. We look forward to testing out components of this module in classrooms in Berlin in the coming year in a new project where we conduct workshops in high schools.

TIES modules are especially relevant for educators in civics, geography, social sciences, but available to anyone looking to bring the topic of migration to the classroom. The modules are designed to be user-friendly and adaptable, allowing teachers to integrate them into their lesson plans seamlessly.

For more information and to access the TIES modules, educators can visit the TIES project website. We encourage teachers to explore these modules and incorporate them into their teaching practices, thereby contributing to a more informed and empathetic generation of students.

Stay tuned for more updates on our collaborations and educational initiatives!
