Earlier this month on March 2, the Get The Trolls Out! Diversity & Religion Exhibition in London closed with the ‘Action Against Hate’ screening, of which Migration Matters was honored to take part. ‘Action against Hate’ explored the theme of ‘Diversity and Religion’ through artwork and films made by artists and video makers from across Europe. With an emphasis on a recent increase in antisemitic and anti-Muslim visual images, the exhibition aimed to counter hateful content by promoting inclusive narratives.
Four videos were selected for and screened at the exhibit, including our documentary short ‘Bamba’s Story – Migrant Lives in Pandemic Times’.
‘Bamba’s Story’ follows a Senegalese street seller named Bamba Donde in 2021 in Bilbao, Spain, as he navigates Covid-19 restrictions. His story is one about family, music, religious community, and connection. It was filmed by Araia Tamayo Alvarez and is part Migrant Lives in Pandemic Times, an international digital storytelling project produced together with the Canada Excellence Research Chair (CERC) in Migration and Integration at Toronto Metropolitan University that explores how the lives of 12 migrants around the world were affected by the pandemic.
‘Bamba’s Story’ was in great company: you can watch all four selected videos as well as view an online gallery of the selected artworks in the Action Against Hate digital exhibit here.
