Our partner, The Canada Excellence Research Chair in Migration and Integration (CERC Migration) at Toronto Metropolitan University, is holding their annual conference in Toronto on May 10-11, 2023. This year, the topic is “Narratives of Migration” and they will consider the narratives of migration that shape understanding, policy and impact lives.
Film and media producer Bernadette Klausberger from the Migration Matters team will be a speaker in the “Migration and mobility narratives in the arts” roundtable on May 11. The panel “considers how a creative producer could construct messages of immigrants and immigration that are humanistic, pluralistic, respectful, reliable and thought provoking while also encouraging audiences to embrace critical lenses – and use them.” Other speakers include Cyrus Sundar Singh, a Gemini Award-winning filmmaker, scholar, songwriter, composer, poet, and change-maker, and documentary filmmaker Alberto Bougleux.
You can register for the conference here. Early bird pricing available until March 6.
CERC Migration and Migration Matters partnered together in 2021 on the international digital storytelling project, Migrant Lives in Pandemic Times. Recorded during the summer of 2021, the project presents both personal testimony and expert analysis to explore how the everyday realities of 12 migrants from across the globe have changed during the pandemic.
