Privacy Policy (the human version)

We take your privacy and data security seriously. This Privacy Policy describes how we treat the personal information we receive from you and what personal information we collect. Please read the following carefully:

What personal information do we collect from the people who visit or utilize our website or email subscription service?

When signing up for our newsletter on our site or subscribing specifically to a Migration Matters online course, you will be asked to enter your name and email address for the purpose of delivery. When simply visiting our site, information about your device and its location will also be collected.

When do we collect information?

We collect information from you either when you visit our site or when you yourself provide your name and email address in subscribing for an online course or in signing up for our newsletter. The only data specific to your identity that we collect is provided by subscribers. Data collected from our website concerning your device is not linked directly to your person.

Email address

In order to receive our Migration Matters online courses, we will require your email address. We will only send additional emails that are not part of an online course to notify you of any changes to your course. We will only send you general updates about our organization and current or future online courses if you permit us to do so by signing up for our newsletter.

Migration Matters will never sell, rent, or share your email address with any third parties. We may disclose your email address as required by law.

Your email address is currently only shared with our third-party email provider, ConvertKit. Your information is shared exclusively for the purpose of delivering our emails, meaning ConvertKit is responsible for making sure that our email courses arrive in your inbox. You can read ConvertKit’s Privacy Policy here. ConvertKit is in compliance with the EU’s new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR).

In compliance with this new EU regulation (GDPR), we will have requested that all subscribers positively opt in to continued mailings. However, if you are still receiving unwanted emails, you may remove your email address easily from our list by scrolling to the bottom of any email from us and clicking on “unsubscribe me.” You may also contact us at team@migrationmatters.me if you experience any problems in unsubscribing.

Facebook

We use a technology called Facebook Conversion Tracking. This allows us to track those visitors who have been referred to this website through a Facebook page, Facebook application, or Facebook advertisement.

We will share information regarding your visit to our website with Facebook, but this will not include your name or contact information. Facebook will use this information to monitor the effectiveness of our advertising and applications on our behalf.

The information we share with Facebook will only be used in accordance with Facebook’s data use policy, now updated to be in compliance with the EU’s new regulations concerning personal data protection.

Twitter

We also use Twitter Conversion and Remarketing tracking. This allows us to track those visitors who have been referred to this website from a Twitter advertisement. See Twitter’s Privacy Policy for further details, also updated to be in compliance with the EU’s new data protection regulations.

YouTube

YouTube is a key hosting platform for our video content. YouTube collects data on users watching our videos either from our website or directed to other sites via our website. This data only involves device and general geographic information, and it allows us to better understand how users find our videos. See YouTube’s Privacy Policy for further details, also updated to be in compliance with the EU’s new data protection regulations.

Google

Like many other websites, we use a service from Google called Google Analytics, which allows us to learn general information about visitors to our website, including the countries in which visitor devices are located and time spent on our website. This information is not shared with advertisers or used for any commercial advertising purposes. Google’s updated GDPR-compliant Privacy Policy can be accessed here.

Do we use “cookies”?

Because we use Google Analytics on our site, cookies are activated by Google. However, these small bits of information only capture specifications related to your device and your browser, not to your identity.

If you are interested in turning off the collection of cookies on this site (or on other sites), you may follow this link to install a browser-add-on to disable Google Analytics.

Changes to this Privacy Policy

Migration Matters has the right to update this policy at any time for any reason. We will promptly notify all subscribers to our mailings of changes made to our Privacy Policy and/or will make visitors to our website aware of these changes.
